New Pattern: Emerald City

Emerald City Cowl Pattern

This is the Emerald City cowl, a new pattern published just in time to keep away those winter chills. It is such a quick and enjoyable knit that you can whip up quite a few in time for Christmas without having to turn to the sherry too early.
Emerald City CowlOne of the best things about this pattern is that is perfect for those special hand painted and variegated yarns that you have been saving for something special but yet still don’t quite know what to do with. The stitch pattern highlights various little elements of the yarn and brings them up and out of the regular knitted surface.
Threaded ribbons for Emerald City CowlTo make the cowl even more special, ribbons, i-cord, other types of cord and even longer length necklaces can be threaded through the pairs of highlight stitches. Though this is entirely optional it also provides an alternative way to wear the cowl as the ribbons or cords can be used as drawstrings to gather the cowl even closer to the neck to keep away even the most insistent chills.

The Emerald City Cowl can be purchased below or bought via Ravelry. If you visit the Ravelry Page for the Emerald City Cowl you’ll also be treated to the a bonus picture which should make you giggle…

  1. Hi Mimi,

    It’s gorgeous!

Would it work with other weight yarns? I’ve a DK weight that would look fab with your design but i’m not confident altering patterns.

    Thanks,
    Lou

    1. Hi Lou,

Yes, it will work with DK yarn and 5mm needles if you cast on 132 sts and work to a gauge of 24sts per 10cm/4″. You may need to work one less repeat of the pattern to get the same depth cowl as the fingering/4-ply weight example, but the depth is fully customisable so it is totally up to the knitter.
