Mrs Tumnus Is Hot Right Now

I’m please to say that my Mrs Tumnus shawl has been well received and has been at the top of the Hot Right Now list on Ravelry since yesterday evening.

I always get a bit nervous when it comes to releasing a new pattern – a kind of nervous excitement like sending something you care about out into the wild for the first time, so it is especially lovely when that wild world is welcoming of your creation.
A few knitters on Ravelry and ย couple of readers of this blog have also asked if there is a possibility of a KAL for the shawl in the near future. I have never hosted a KAL before so I am gauging interest and so I wanted to ask what, for readers, makes a good Knit-along? Good pattern support for those who are perhaps pushing themselves to try new techniques is a given, but do people like one that has a prescribed pace or a ‘knit to your own time’ approach?ย
If there appears to be any interest about a KAL I might start an Eskimimi Makes group on Ravelry tomorrow and host one for people to sign up to, but I’d be interested to hear people’s thoughts.

EDIT: A group has been created on Ravelry: Eskimimi Makes. Pattern support, tutorials support, tutorial requests and KALs within. Do drop by!

  1. When doing a KAL, I appreciate it the pattern is broken down into very manageable portions to knit. One section might be larger but the following might be smaller so that I can keep up. I’m glad to see your shawl gaining momentum!

  2. I saw that yesterday (plus it showed up in my “try me!” feed). That’s cool!

I love KALs – I have yarn that’s burning holes in my stash that would be perfect for this shawl. I also like when patterns are broken up in bits – helps me keep on track (plus I love the collective knitting experience a KAL makes!)

  3. Rock on, you!

I’ve added the pattern to my faves, and planning to cast on this week if I find a yarn that catches my eye at the store ๐Ÿ™‚

I’d certainly join your Ravelry group… although I (personally) knit along at my own speed instead of KALs. But I like watching ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I saw your shawl up there on the hot 20 – well done ๐Ÿ™‚
I quite like a longish deadline on a knit along – but also good lead in time to get ready. I’d love to knit this shawl – it’s fab.

  5. KAL FTW! I’ve decided this is the perfect pattern for me to knit up my very first skein of Wollmeise. Didja make the group yet? Huh? Didja? Off to check…
